The Drifter

I am but a drift of wood

That floats upon the sea

I know not where I want to go

Or where I used to be.

I travel far upon the surf

I see so many sights

I've passed through many somber days

And many stormy nights.

Now and then I chance to meet

Another drift of wood

It seems we always float apart

And lose ourselves for good.

The only fear in life I have

Is that I might decay

That's why I let the sunshine bask

On me for every day.

Away I drift upon the waves

I never find the shore

I was looking for a place to hold;

I'm not searching anymore.
